I know that people have seen this work at the equator. Its a fake. A scam. Michael Palin even got conned by this on one of his PBS series.

Reading your source links Howard (that the direction has to do with the way water comes into the bowl), it is highly possible, though altogether unlikely, that some obscure southern hemisphere ceramics manufacturer makes a smattering of "reverse spin toilets" just so people like Kim can witness this and report back to northerners like you, thus creating a ruckus (such as we have here today!). BS
